As a couple, on your own, or with friends – an important question when travelling

Although it may seem that the first firm step towards shaping our long-awaited Easter holidays might be to speak to ‘the boss’ to let them know about our future temporary absence, the fact is that the crucial step comes when it’s time to ask yourself the following question: How do I want to travel… as a couple, on my own, or with friends?

Even if travelling alone is an experience that more and more people opt for, there are travellers who feel that nothing compares to a couple of relaxing days with friends. Then, of course, there are the lovebirds who always want to go on holiday as a couple.

But what happens if we reach that point where we can’t decide what option we want to go for? At Trips & Hotels we have selected 3 Spanish destinations for each of these ways of travelling. We don’t expect to have the final say on the subject (since everyone has to make the decision themselves), but we would like to at least help those who are undecided.

A trip to Madrid with friends

Famous throughout the world, the capital of Spain is one of those destinations that always works no matter how you choose to travel, and (of course) with all the various kinds of travellers we are familiar with.

Madrid is a city to visit with friends and what better way to start a conversation than enjoying one of the many musicals or plays on offer? What could be better than having a good time eating a wedge of potato omelette, drinking craft beer?

Given that the city is quite large and the goal is to take advantage of the capital to the max, the best solution is to go for a central accommodation option – such as the hotel Gran Via Madrid – helping you to be mere steps from such highly-recommended places as Puerta del Sol, the Retiro Park, Gran Vía and the Plaza Mayor.

Destination? Tenerife as a couple

At Trips & Hotels we are very much fans of the Atlantic breeze. It’s charming, different, refreshing and highly romantic (yes, even more so than the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean). With waves of intense blue and intense passion, it couldn’t be a more obvious choice: for a couple’s getaway there’s nothing better than opting for the island Tenerife, part of the Canary Islands.

Choose a hotel in southern Tenerife to enjoy your Easter holidays with your partner, to choose relaxation but also that Canarian magic: evenings filled with the scent of the sea and a charming culture that makes us fall in love (at least that’s what it does to us).

A singular destination on the island of Ibiza

If there is one destination in Spain that’s perfect for those who prefer to travel on their own, it’s definitely the island of Ibiza.

A hippie spirit and a mindset that’s completely open appeals to all travellers who dare to travel around the world in the company of their backpack, the white island hides treasure that will make the single traveller feel right at home. The best? Choose a hotel in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza and create your own routes throughout the entire island.

A route through the best markets on the island of Ibiza

Traditional, historical and full of magic, the island of Ibiza is a unique destination in the world for its colorful, many styles and its free spirit and chameleon. A place of retreat for the main celebrities of the world and a temple of those young people who add to the frenetic rhythm of their summer nights, the white island (as it is known for its many pagesas houses) is a place that marked a before and after in the European hippie culture.

Although it was a community that conquered the island (almost in its entirety) back in the 60s and 70s, the truth is that – with a slightly smaller number of hippiesIbiza keeps intact part of this authentic and characteristic story . The most obvious proof? Its hippie markets, traditional events that take place in different points of the island geography and that should be part of every itinerary on the Balearic island.

Las Dalias, much more than a market to use

Although many take shape in Ibiza, no hippie market impresses as much as Las Dalias does. With nearly a hundred stalls of handmade clothing and artisan products, this market is held every Saturday in Sant Carles de Peralta, a small village located less than 5 kilometers from the IBEROSTAR Santa Eulalia hotel, the best hotel in Santa Eulalia. To discover each one of its spots and to speak with the artisans is, at least, a real one hundred percent Ibizan pleasure.

The hippie market of Punta Arabí

All those who have chosen to stay in rooms in Santa Eulalia will be within walking distance of another outstanding hippie market such as the one held in Punta Arabi. This market, where music and fashion go hand in hand, is ideal to give us some whim or to surprise our people with an artisan detail and there are more than 400 places that take shape in this hippie market.

A return to tradition in Sant Rafel de Forca

Every Thursday, the rural area of Sant Rafel de Forca becomes a lively example of the art of Ibiza. A gathering in which hippie dresses and candles coexist in total harmony with pottery vessels and baskets elaborated by the pageses of the island. The best? Its many stalls of ecological products.

Santa Eularia, the most romantic spot on the island of Ibiza

Stroll through its streets adorned with thousands of russet leaves, see the Mediterranean in total calm, enjoy the silence and absorb the pure essence of the White Island. Thus, in a somewhat bucolic way, we could sum up an autumnal trip to Ibiza which is both magical and charming.

Far from being just a summer destination, and even though it is an ideal haven of peace for all types of travelers, there is nothing better than opting for Ibiza when what is wanted is to enjoy a few romantic days just the two of you as a couple. Which is the best season? The autumn, and which is the best part of the island? Without a doubt, Santa Eulalia del Rio (Santa Eulària des Riu, in Ibiza).
pareja en la playa
Located in the eastern part of Ibiza, Santa Eulalia is one of those places where you can enjoy the island to the fullest and more than ever before: silence, nature, intimacy and charm are just some of its dominant notes. But what should you visit, where should you walk and what mustn’t you miss if you’re a traveler immersed in a romantic getaway? Here are our recommendations for this month from Trips and Hotels:
 1. Puig de Missa: With its mid-sixteenth century church and its flour mills, climbing up to Puig de Missa is an experience. A place where you can breathe the purest air on Ibiza and where you can enjoy unique panoramic views. For something different, why not take a bottle of local wine and a couple of glasses and watch the sunset from your viewpoint. Nothing is more romantic.
2. Strolling through the markets: Hand in hand and with the Ibizan sun as witness, visiting the flea markets on the island that border Santa Eulalia is one of those perfect plans for couples. Those of es Canar and Sant Carles are the best known in the area.
A walk that you can make last well into the evening and you can finish with a meal or dinner by its exclusive and beautiful marina.
3. Get lost by its coves: Although the Mediterranean is really fresh in the Autumn months, there is nothing like enjoying a romantic stroll along the shore of the most beautiful coves of Santa Eulalia. Although there are a lot, our recommendation is to choose Es Figueral, Cala Nova, Cala Llonga or Cala Martina, which is always beautiful.
An Unequaled Choice for ‘Adults Only’ Travel
Although there are many types of travel (and all are more than respectable), the truth is that – if you are looking for is pure romanticism and relaxation as a couple, there is nothing better than opting for an Adult’s Only Suite in Santa Eulalia.
This Ibizan locality has been chosen by high quality hotels which have created true refuges in which to spend unforgettable days. IBEROSTAR Santa Eulalia is a great example of this and this hotel in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza unites services, leisure and gourmet food in facilities that are worthy of a fairy tale.

Rest, family, entertainment: everything you need in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza

Although nightlife identifies Ibiza, neon lights and nightclubs are not everything. As an example, Santa Eulalia del Rio called Santa Eulalia because it is the only river in the Balearic Islands. This river differs from any river you could find in the Balearic islands, what is making more and more special your stay in Ibiza. Do you want to know more?

Santa Eulalia del Río, Ibiza

Goblins from Santa Eulalia

Yes. Ibiza’s secret

As legend has it, the so-called fameliars are little goblins which walk across Santa Eulalia in the peaceful night. If you want to see a goblin, visit Santa Eulalia, as it is the only place where they want to stay. Moreover, there will be for sure many more places you would like to visit.

What should I visit in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza?

Mirador del Puig de Missa and Paseo Maritimo are places that you should visit in Santa Eulalia. You must also visit two places which have become typical in the island for more than 40 years. The hippy markets of Punta Arabi and Las Dalias opening every Wednesday in Es Canar and every Saturday in San Carlos respectively are now visited by lots of tourists who can get amazing metal or precious stones pieces at low price.

Where should I stay in Ibiza?

Undoubtedly, you should  stay in Santa Eulalia. The peaceful atmosphere allows you to rest and relax. There’s a 3-star hotel in a wonderful place. The only adults hotel Paraiso Beach, member of FERGUS Hotels, is really close to Cala Marquina and Punta Arabi hippy market, the most famous one in the island. In FERGUS Paraiso Beach you will discover that Ibiza is much more than nightclubs and eternal nights, becoming a place where you can relax and enjoy the quietness of the area.

Majorca and Ibiza compete for the summer party

The Balearic Islands are an ideal destination for any type of traveller and holiday. Every island offers a range of special motivations thanks to which millions of tourists visit this archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, renowned all around the world because of the quality of its services and its beautiful beaches and landscapes. Beaches for children, The Serra de Tramuntana for mountain lovers, the traditional culture and quietness, unique fishing grounds for recreational fishing or scuba diving, bicycle touring routes, gourmet restaurants, the best international boutiques, fashionable bars and discos…

Minorca is quietness, Majorca is relaxation and families, but if we want a summer holiday to enjoy the authentic Mediterranean party, Ibiza exceeds the expectations… Nevertheless, it has strong competitors. In the last years, the growing demand of music tourism and youth travel has turned Majorca into one of the favourite summer party destinations in Europe, along with Ibiza. Three specific areas are now points of reference, offering youth hotels specially designed for fun, sun and beach.

One of the most outstanding ones, which is preparing its first great summer, is FERGUS Magaluf Resort: complex located right next to Magaluf beach, in the Calvià coast.  It is a result of the joining of the old Fergus Barracuda and Fergus Pax. Fergus Hotels stand outs this is the first 24h All-Inclusive hotel in Magaluf, conceived for groups of friends, stag parties and summer parties. It counts on the collaboration of the main disco in this part of Majorca: BCM Planet Dance, with DJs that will work to organize music sessions during the day in pool and bar areas of the complex. Resort design has been completely refurbished, with minimalist details, common areas conceived as meeting point of all the guests and a wide range of party plans compose this new youth hotel in Magaluf.

Very close, we find one of the pioneer hotels, managed by Melià:Sol Wave House, with wave pools for surfing and sea views. Another of the outstanding ones of this chain, more targeted at families, but also offering shows and entertainment, is Sol Katmandú Park, hotel for groups of friends in Magaluf built as an amusement park on the seashore.

Mallorca Rocks is another hotel which has turned into one of the most preferred ones in the last years. It boasts concerts of some of the most important indie bands (for example  The Kooks or Kaiser Chiefs in the last summer), but in 2015 it is planning a different strategy, more similar to Ibiza: DJ sessions, parties in the pool at any time of the day, new common areas, discounts on parties of BCM Planet Dance…

Hotels in the centre of Palma have also capitalized on this new business: nightlife tourism. With the emblematic Paseo Marítimo in Palma, the lively old quarter of the city, or the modern Santa Catalina neighbourhood, hotels located in Paseo Mallorca or on the seashore are the most demanded ones. They all are close to the main discos in Palma (El Divino, Pacha, Tito’s…) and the most alternative bars (Maraca Club, Sabotage, Soho…), just one step away from the wonderful terrace of the Contemporary Art Museum Es Baluard, where avant-garde and innovative outdoor parties are celebrated in summer.

Palladium Hotel in Palma de Majorca

On the other hand, Ibiza is still the favourite summer party island. Its main attraction is the venue of the most important discos in the world: Space, Priviledge, Anmesia, Pacha…  Besides, this island offers complementary plans adapted to this type of public, which is not so easy to find in other destinations. An entire island providing its visitors with a party experience during the whole summer is something that we can only find in Ibiza and it is difficult that any other destination could make it better.

In fact, hotel managers are working hard in this respect by creating more and more Adults Only hotels in Ibiza specially designed for relaxing and funny holidays. One of the most exclusive hotels with a wonderful career (it has been opened only a few years ago) is the famous Ushuaïa, by Fiesta Group, which has received some of the best DJs in the world. Its central swimming pool with classic music under the water is one of its fantastic elements and gives us an idea about how this tourism sector works in this island.

Ibiza’s family side

Ibiza is known worldwide as the capital of electronic music, the centre of house during the summer, shelter to all kinds of famous people and the where the best DJ’s in the world concentrate for 4 months. However, the so called White Island is much more and offers leisure proposals and plans for all ages and tastes.

Children beach Ibiza

Within its 575 km², Ibiza hides a more tender and familiar side, with quiet corners, amazing natural areas, children’s playgrounds and play areas designed especially for those who choose Ibiza for family holidays.

The beaches and small coves that abound the entire coast of the island is one of its main attractions: in total, the visitor can choose from more than fifty of them. The most familiar are the famous Ses Salines, which is crowded with bathers during the high season, Ses Figueretes in Ibiza city, Cala Gracio or Es Puet in Sant Antoni, Sa Caleta in Sant Josep, but are also well worth visiting the incredible Benirrás, surrounded but its exuberant nature, and Cala Tarida.

Ibiza quiet coves

One should mark on the calendar a visit to the Aquarium of Cap Blanc, where children can enjoy discovering the different marine species that populate the Mediterranean. Another excursion that will allow you to discover in depth the island of Ibiza is a tour of its underground caves: Can Marça, the Cueva de las Langostas or the Cave of Es Culleram.

Another must visit place to visit with the family in Ibiza is that of the hippy markets: Wednesdays in Es Canar and Saturday in Las Dalias, places where to buy the odd souvenir and enjoy the smells and colours typical of the island.

Family accommodation in Ibiza is extremely varied and there are holiday hotels for children with special services, complete rooms and activities designed for the amusement of children.

The Hotel Hawaii Ibiza, on the beach of Es Puet (San Antonio) and the Hotel Miami Ibiza, on the beach of Es Canar (Santa Eulalia) are two of the clearest examples of the wide range of hotel offer the island provides its visitors. The family apartments in Ibiza are also a good alternative as they provide extra privacy and independence.
