Discovering the magic of Playa Jandía on Fuerteventura

Spain is a country filled with unique paradisical landscapes. They boast a presence and personality that places us at the forefront of world tourism. Even if it’s the peninsula that benefits the most, speaking in terms of visitors – with places like the Stone Monastery, Valencia’s Albufera, the Cádiz mountains and the Bilbao river – the islands (whether we’re talking about the Balearic or the Canary Islands) are definitely two of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world.

Our destination this month is Fuerteventura: a land of volcanoes where you’ll find unique spots that are a lot more special than those featured in the travel guides we all buy to get information on all the good stuff waiting for us at our chosen destination. Even if there are plenty of examples (such as the Corralejo Natural Park and the Islote de Lobos island), nothing compares to the beauty of the Jandía peninsula, topped by the beach Playa Jandía.

Much more than a beach

Even if many flock here to enjoy the sun and sea, Playa Jandía has its own personality that offers visitors a paused, quiet and one hundred per cent Canarian character. In this area of the island the way of life is completely different from that found in other parts of the region.

As you might expect, this makes Playa Jandía the Kingdom of Surfers, but it’s also a great choice for anyone who enjoys a diving session or a bit of light sailing.

Pure Atlantic

Playa Jandía is pure Atlantic. This is the place to come to discover the magic of the big blue that caresses the shorelines in this part of the world. The deep blue colour and the waves (occasionally frantic) combine to perfection with a yellow, soft blanket of sand that shines like the Sun.

Beyond the beaches, don’t miss out on the Jandía Natural Park. This vast natural desert landscape (characteristic to volcanic destinations like Fuerteventura) offers tours where you can learn more about the flora and fauna of this part of the island, and enjoy unique views with the sea as backdrop.

Hotels in Playa Jandía

Considered one of the most beautiful beach destinations in our country, Playa Jandía is also one of the ‘top’ destinations for the IBEROSTAR hotels and resorts chain, a brand that is known for hotels featuring the highest quality available, and a truly interesting price range.

The Majorcan chain offers three of the best hotels in the area. They are: IBEROSTAR Fuerteventura Palace, IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas and IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas Park

Windsurfing in Fuerteventura

In any beach destination in Spain we find thousands and thousands of different plans to enjoy the summer, but the water sports are, undoubtedly, one of the most coveted ones: sailing, surfing, stand up paddle surfing, windsurfing, diving, kitesurfing…  There are options for all tastes, some of which have become authentic social movements with many enthusiasts that travel thousands of kilometres to enjoy the best beaches for practising them.

If you are one of those who have booked their holiday in Fuerteventura to enjoy windsurfing, so you know that in this beautiful Canary Island are gathered some of the most interesting spots for practising this sport.  In addition to the advantage of the coasts washed by the Atlantic, Fuerteventura boasts the beauty of its landscapes, the good temperature of the water and the excellent weather that allows to enjoy the sea during the whole year.

Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace

For those planning to start this sport, the best area to do it in Fuerteventura is the south.  Costa Calma and, in general, all the coast of the municipality of Pájara. For added convenience, a good option is booking an accommodation in one of the many hotels located on the banks of Jandia Beach, very close to the lively Morro Jable town and to so wonderful beaches such as Playa del Matorral.

This plan is perfect for those who have planned their holiday with children in Fuerteventura and want to take the opportunity to learn surf with family.  Next to the hotel are always companies and schools specialized in surf and windsurf, offering courses for all ages and levels.  Likewise, you can rent equipment and watch entertaining shows.

Hotel Barcelo Corralejo Bay

Nevertheless, if you have done windsurfing and want a bit of adventure, the general recommendation is to choose an accommodation in Corralejo town, since in the surroundings of this area are placed some of the best beaches in Fuerteventura for doing this fun sport.

Additionally, Sotavento beach, in the south, is usually the scene where some of the most important windsurfing championships are celebrated, such as PWA that, year after year, receives in Fuerteventura the most renowned windsurfers in the world.

For taking waves, the most outstanding points are El Cotillo, Bristol, El Muelle and Punta Helena or Esquinzo.
