Discovering the magic of Playa Jandía on Fuerteventura

Spain is a country filled with unique paradisical landscapes. They boast a presence and personality that places us at the forefront of world tourism. Even if it’s the peninsula that benefits the most, speaking in terms of visitors – with places like the Stone Monastery, Valencia’s Albufera, the Cádiz mountains and the Bilbao river – the islands (whether we’re talking about the Balearic or the Canary Islands) are definitely two of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world.

Our destination this month is Fuerteventura: a land of volcanoes where you’ll find unique spots that are a lot more special than those featured in the travel guides we all buy to get information on all the good stuff waiting for us at our chosen destination. Even if there are plenty of examples (such as the Corralejo Natural Park and the Islote de Lobos island), nothing compares to the beauty of the Jandía peninsula, topped by the beach Playa Jandía.

Much more than a beach

Even if many flock here to enjoy the sun and sea, Playa Jandía has its own personality that offers visitors a paused, quiet and one hundred per cent Canarian character. In this area of the island the way of life is completely different from that found in other parts of the region.

As you might expect, this makes Playa Jandía the Kingdom of Surfers, but it’s also a great choice for anyone who enjoys a diving session or a bit of light sailing.

Pure Atlantic

Playa Jandía is pure Atlantic. This is the place to come to discover the magic of the big blue that caresses the shorelines in this part of the world. The deep blue colour and the waves (occasionally frantic) combine to perfection with a yellow, soft blanket of sand that shines like the Sun.

Beyond the beaches, don’t miss out on the Jandía Natural Park. This vast natural desert landscape (characteristic to volcanic destinations like Fuerteventura) offers tours where you can learn more about the flora and fauna of this part of the island, and enjoy unique views with the sea as backdrop.

Hotels in Playa Jandía

Considered one of the most beautiful beach destinations in our country, Playa Jandía is also one of the ‘top’ destinations for the IBEROSTAR hotels and resorts chain, a brand that is known for hotels featuring the highest quality available, and a truly interesting price range.

The Majorcan chain offers three of the best hotels in the area. They are: IBEROSTAR Fuerteventura Palace, IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas and IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas Park

How to make your holiday a five-star experience

To live a unique, special and unforgettable holiday there is no need to spend thousands of euros, or stay in suites of the most expensive hotels in the country. To have a perfect summer full of exciting experiences is easier and cheaper than you think: just be clear about the destination that we advise, study it in depth and leave the ” inertia” for those who are content with anything.

From among our country’s main destinations, we have chosen three: Mallorca, Fuerteventura and Cadiz. These three places, full of natural beauty, are all acclaimed by foreign and local tourists in the summer months both for location and quality. How can you make the days in these destinations become a highly repeatable experience?

Hunt for and capture Majorcan silence

Mallorca is a quiet island, full of peace and spectacular places that go beyond the bustling capital and the packed beaches. Enjoying that calm is definitely the key to a five-star vacation.

Some trips that can’t be missed from any travel book? The most recommended are: a visit to Port Adriano’s new Marina, tasting the island’s local cuisine, a boat excursion bound for the island of Cabrera or lose yourselves in the coves where only early birds venture to go.

Fuerteventura and a taste of the exquisite Atlantic

Simply by choosing the island of Fuerteventura is the first step in your journey of discovery that the Canary Island is the perfect holiday retreat and earthly luxury that most people search for when spending their free time. Where is the key that opens this flood of sensations? That’ simple, it is in the tranquility of the most beautiful beaches (like Cofete or the large beaches of Corralejo) and in the variety and quality of its local cuisine.

Cádiz, much more than Andalusian art

One of the wildest, charming and natural destinations that you can visit in summer is Cadiz. Although the beaches and restaurants in the capital tend to be crowded (partly for their quality and low price); there are other areas in the province that offer real luxury, calm and relaxation.

Places such as Zahara, de los Atunes, Valdelagrana or Chiclana de la Frontera. Three  destinations with kilometres of unspoilt beaches and a range of bars that are a real treat.

Where to stay in Mallorca, Fuerteventura and Cadiz?

If we want to enjoy a few days of rest, relaxation and luxury in one of these three destinations, there is nothing better than choosing one of the hotels in the IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resort chain.  So, in Mallorca (in the Santa Ponsa area) relaxation is guaranteed in IBEROSTAR Suites Hotel Jardin del Sol and in its Spa; in Fuerteventura the option to choose is the beautiful IBEROSTAR Fuerteventura Palace.

For those who opt for it, there is nothing better than the IBEROSTAR Royal Andalus, a hotel with a golf course located in the most beautiful and exclusive area of Chiclana de la Frontera.

The north of Spain is spectacular, but it depends on the time of the year, so, it is best to no bet and head straight to the south of the country, our destination is that wonderful peninsula called Jandía, a place that used to be an island that, thanks to the Atlantic current, little by little was connected to Fuerteventura through a bigsandarea. This sand line is now one of the most exclusive hotel areas in Fuerteventura: Calma coast, Gaviotas beach, El Matorral until Morro Jable, the marine town sign of south Fuerteventura.

If you’re thinking of your accommodation, best to choose a hotel in Playa Gaviotas or a resort for couples in Jandía. Don’t worry if you’re travelling with children, most hotels in this area offer a variety of services for the little ones, giving the opportunity to whole family to enjoy a couple of days of fun and relax without worries at all.

If you’re travelling alone or with your couple, you should miss a tour to what it used to be the Jandia’s natural park, that covers a large part of the Pájara territory, and italso hideone of the most beautiful beaches in the Canarias: Cofete beach, but be careful, especially if you’re going with children, the sea current and waves are unpredictable in this area of Jandía.

Morro Jable, like we mentioned before, is the meeting point: markets, constant activities, shopping malls, art, restaurants and life itself. In here you can view the fishing boats come and go, the sailors with the fishing nets, and the fish that come from the port straight to the typical bars and restaurants along the coast. There are many events too in this area.

If your hotel is near to Matorral beach, you will enjoy one of the most famous and well preserved sandyarea of south Fuerteventura. Half of it used to be a nudist beach, but the swimsuits havegain terrain, reducing it to a small naturalist beautiful beach. Although, being one of the most extensive beaches, is perfect for a quiet and private dive, away from the crowd and the noise.

This southern area of Fuerteventura has a lot to offer, but it would be better if you start right now to look at it all by yourself, investigate, schedule, organize, plan, and forget all that post-holiday syndrome.

Jandia was originally a small island with no connection to Fuerteventura, a slice of paradise lost in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. Today, and after thousands of years of sea currents that contributed to the accumulation of sand between the southern tip of Fuerteventura and Jandia, the island is an incredible natural peninsula where each year many tourists find the perfect place to  find peace and tranquility.

Fuerteventura beaches

Blessed with the perpetual spring weather that characterises the Canary Islands, Jandia offers something different, a unique setting in which luxurious tourist services are perfectly combined with spectacular landscapes and beautiful fishing villages that keep alive the culture and tradition of the this small peninsula.

From Costa Calma to Morro Jable, there is a succession of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters and invite you to let yourself go, forget about time and obligations, immersed in a a sea of relaxation and delicious sea breeze.

Nature Jandía

To enjoy a holiday in this beautiful peninsula, it’s best to book a hotel on the beach, with services tailored to your needs: if you’re travelling as a couple, you will find adult only hotels in Jandia, if, on the contrary, you are travelling with children, an all inclusive hotel in Playa de Jandia with Spa can be the best choice for all.

The hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has 3 of the major hotels in the area of Fuerteventura, designed for couples and families:

· Hotel Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace

· Hotel Iberostar Playa Gaviotas

· Hotel Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Park
