We said it before and we maintain it: Every travel Is different (Even if you’re travelling to the same destination as before), each traveller seeks for new experiences and each accommodation is designated to fulfil that desire. You can keep using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but knowing the market demands and specializing is –whether like it or not- essential in our times.
Specialized tourism is the future. There will always be adaptable hotels what will survive based on lower-middle class travellers that look for a low-cost holiday package (the cheapest) those who doesn’t care about quality and only see everything the hotel offers with their budget.
Big expend, small profit: an arduous path avoided for those who felt the pinch and bet on turning their hotel into one that fits with the customer’s necessity. The large investment needed during the past lean years in Spain drove many small hotel chains to bankrupt, leaving the market for those who controlled the situation, and succeeded during these times of uncertainty
The hotel sector in Spain, despite some hotels doesn’t want or haven’t been able to move forward into this new trend, is one of the most advanced in the concept of romantic hotels and Adults Only hotels and currently has a wide variety of accommodations specially designed for couples. Being a priority: rest, gastronomy and the relaxation services the place has to offer.
This new touristic line is more developed in the coastal zones, especially in Majorca, Malaga, Huelva, Cádiz and the Canary Islands. With a few exceptions in the Catalonian coast and a gold mine in the major cities like Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona, where the couple market segment is one of the main source of incomes.
The most specialized accommodations can be found mostly in locations with high touristic demand, they usually have wellness and comfort centres, which is one of their flagship services included. Some outstanding hotels are the spa hotels in Playa de Palma (Majorca), the adult only hotels in Costa Adeje, the family hotels in Costa Adeje, some of the spa hotels in Fuerteventura, especially those in Jandía (southern part of the island) and the spa hotels in Cadis.
Prices tend to be more expensive than the regular all inclusive hotels since the specialized accommodations are, generally, superior than 3 star hotels and offers more complete services that just a spa. For example, they usually have more than one restaurant, and at least one is author’s cuisine or has a gourmet menu. They also tend to offer lounge bars, or beach clubs with chill out zones, the most amazing parties to dance and have some fun between friends, without leaving the excellent single service and privacy.
Some big hotel chains had greatly succeeded in this new hotel line that they have turned into a worldwide reference. Between the most mentioned projects is The Grand Collection line of IBEROSTAR, with the Grand Hotel Budapest in Europe and the Gand Hotel Salomé in Tenerife. Meliá, with its renewed resorts in the coastal zone of Calvià, is another big pioneer that has some special unique hotels, with very authentic and inspiring projects like the Sol Wave, the Sol Beach House Cala Blanca…tagged in the travellers couple line of Sol Hotels.
