Discovering the magic of Playa Jandía on Fuerteventura

Spain is a country filled with unique paradisical landscapes. They boast a presence and personality that places us at the forefront of world tourism. Even if it’s the peninsula that benefits the most, speaking in terms of visitors – with places like the Stone Monastery, Valencia’s Albufera, the Cádiz mountains and the Bilbao river – the islands (whether we’re talking about the Balearic or the Canary Islands) are definitely two of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world.

Our destination this month is Fuerteventura: a land of volcanoes where you’ll find unique spots that are a lot more special than those featured in the travel guides we all buy to get information on all the good stuff waiting for us at our chosen destination. Even if there are plenty of examples (such as the Corralejo Natural Park and the Islote de Lobos island), nothing compares to the beauty of the Jandía peninsula, topped by the beach Playa Jandía.

Much more than a beach

Even if many flock here to enjoy the sun and sea, Playa Jandía has its own personality that offers visitors a paused, quiet and one hundred per cent Canarian character. In this area of the island the way of life is completely different from that found in other parts of the region.

As you might expect, this makes Playa Jandía the Kingdom of Surfers, but it’s also a great choice for anyone who enjoys a diving session or a bit of light sailing.

Pure Atlantic

Playa Jandía is pure Atlantic. This is the place to come to discover the magic of the big blue that caresses the shorelines in this part of the world. The deep blue colour and the waves (occasionally frantic) combine to perfection with a yellow, soft blanket of sand that shines like the Sun.

Beyond the beaches, don’t miss out on the Jandía Natural Park. This vast natural desert landscape (characteristic to volcanic destinations like Fuerteventura) offers tours where you can learn more about the flora and fauna of this part of the island, and enjoy unique views with the sea as backdrop.

Hotels in Playa Jandía

Considered one of the most beautiful beach destinations in our country, Playa Jandía is also one of the ‘top’ destinations for the IBEROSTAR hotels and resorts chain, a brand that is known for hotels featuring the highest quality available, and a truly interesting price range.

The Majorcan chain offers three of the best hotels in the area. They are: IBEROSTAR Fuerteventura Palace, IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas and IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas Park

Fuerteventura, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Lanzarote: you choose

Canarias is like a multi-destination where you could change your mind about your holidays concept.  Although at first sight, it may seem that the archipelago just offers you sun and beaches, every one of its islands hides surprising proposals, which persuade you to visit it again. In fact, each of the territories that make up Canarias allows you to organise a tailor made travel, different and original, with diverse purposes and outcomes.

Today we will take advantage of January’s calm, post-holiday season and the Winter cold to stay home thinking about all good things to come: Holidays. Take out pencil and paper and take notes because we will review some of the proposals that Canarias offers us for this Spring-Summer 2016. If you have never been there, don’t think twice. If you have already been there, start thinking of coming back…

Couples: Lanzarote

Lanzarote

Lanzarote

Few places like Lanzarote for getting the moon. This island is magic, not just because its fabulous multi-coloured sandy beaches, but the natural beauty of its orography, directly emerging from the depths of the Earth. Lanzarote’s landscape seems to be from another Galaxy, a place where volcanos and ocean meet in such a way that make up a unique colour scheme building the most wonderful history. Sheer cliffs coated by past lava eruptions, vegetation hardly seen over the bare hills like uncharted lunar land, valleys full of deciduous trees, swamps, caves, desert paths…And among one another, small quiet White villages whispering their everyday life histories. Their people and traditions conceal the same calm and relaxed pace. Everything tastes like salt and exotic fruits, spices and sauces. Gastronomy is one of the small treats maintained almost as it was since ancient times and takes your taste back to different eras, destinations and civilisations.

Booking a hotel in Lanzarote is an essential option to be considered for those looking for a romantic getaway, but do not be deluded: a couple getaway has thousands of possibilities in this island. The classic trip for two: idyllic beaches, restaurant by the sea, terraces that seem to have been built to watch the sunset, luxury spa hotels, cosy apartments in the midst of nature…But also the one offering adventure, which invites you to explore every inch of the island, immerse yourself in its forests, get lost in its deserts, climb to the top of its volcanos or venture into the depths of its sea and its lava and fire lands.

Sports are a must in the island. You can enjoy surfing -although it is not as traditional as in Fuerteventura, as we will now see-, diving, sailing, golf, cycling without any hassle. There are companies in the island that provide the necessary equipment and professional guides to accompany us on our adventures. Moreover, hotels and resorts in Lanzarote, especially in touristic areas, provide special services to enjoy leisure and the natural environment at very affordable prices. Lanzarote is a paradise for any budget: transport is economical and comfortable, fully-equipped accommodation at very reasonable rates and flights affordable for anyone who is fortunate enough to book them in advance.

It is an excellent destination for everybody, where spending a memorable and unique vacation by simply wishing it. From the famous Dunas de Corralejo to the hotels in Playa de Jandia, where you can enjoy the spectacular beach of Matorral, the natural recovery of which gave all of its beauty back.

Fuerteventura offers everything, from monumental heritage to history, traditional gastronomy, craft, boutiques and typical outdoor markets. The major traveller attraction is the coast, its long sandy beaches and its ideal waves to practice windsurf, the sport of choice in the Canary paradise. International competitions with official rankings take place in Fuerteventura, elected also to host world championships on many occasions, where it is possible to see some of the most famous windsurfers on the planet. Its great climate, with sun and wind makes Fuerteventura the ideal destination for surfing internationally. This had led to the emergence of one of the best service industries, comprising diverse companies and even athletes’ hotels.

But in this surf paradise, children still playing the leading role. Fuerteventura is a family island, full of leisure options particularly aimed at children. It is here where the concept of child friendly hotel has evolved furthest, good examples of this are the child friendly resorts in Jandia with Only Adults spaces reserved for parents to combine family holidays and time for themselves.  Thanks to all these details and services that make this destination offer more versatile, Fuerteventura remains very popular in all Spanish travel agencies and tour operators, over other neighbouring islands. Moreover, its prices are much more affordable compared to other typical sun and beach holiday destinations, and its services are high quality.

Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Photos

Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Photos

The north of Spain is spectacular, but it depends on the time of the year, so, it is best to no bet and head straight to the south of the country, our destination is that wonderful peninsula called Jandía, a place that used to be an island that, thanks to the Atlantic current, little by little was connected to Fuerteventura through a bigsandarea. This sand line is now one of the most exclusive hotel areas in Fuerteventura: Calma coast, Gaviotas beach, El Matorral until Morro Jable, the marine town sign of south Fuerteventura.

If you’re thinking of your accommodation, best to choose a hotel in Playa Gaviotas or a resort for couples in Jandía. Don’t worry if you’re travelling with children, most hotels in this area offer a variety of services for the little ones, giving the opportunity to whole family to enjoy a couple of days of fun and relax without worries at all.

If you’re travelling alone or with your couple, you should miss a tour to what it used to be the Jandia’s natural park, that covers a large part of the Pájara territory, and italso hideone of the most beautiful beaches in the Canarias: Cofete beach, but be careful, especially if you’re going with children, the sea current and waves are unpredictable in this area of Jandía.

Morro Jable, like we mentioned before, is the meeting point: markets, constant activities, shopping malls, art, restaurants and life itself. In here you can view the fishing boats come and go, the sailors with the fishing nets, and the fish that come from the port straight to the typical bars and restaurants along the coast. There are many events too in this area.

If your hotel is near to Matorral beach, you will enjoy one of the most famous and well preserved sandyarea of south Fuerteventura. Half of it used to be a nudist beach, but the swimsuits havegain terrain, reducing it to a small naturalist beautiful beach. Although, being one of the most extensive beaches, is perfect for a quiet and private dive, away from the crowd and the noise.

This southern area of Fuerteventura has a lot to offer, but it would be better if you start right now to look at it all by yourself, investigate, schedule, organize, plan, and forget all that post-holiday syndrome.

Yes, this dream green lagoon is in Lanzarote, in an area buried by volcanic eruptions called Yaiza, in the south of the island. Where to stay in Lanzarote?

If you want to enjoy sun and sea, the most complete and comfortable place to stay in Lanzarote is Yaiza, specifically, the area of hotels in Costa de Papagayo, or, further into the South, the area of resorts in Playa Blanca where you can find all kinds of accommodations, from the classic All-Inclusive apartments in Lanzarote to the 5-star hotels or  hostels and guesthouses to spend a couple of days in the island at a good price.

The offer is wide and prices vary depending on your needs and the type of holiday you’ve planned.

So if you want to enjoy a relaxing getaway without many worries, our recommendation is to stay at a hotel in Playa Blanca: there you will find some of the best hotels in Lanzarote for children, Adults Only and families.

If, on the contrary, you want to escape from routine and have fun, the resorts in Puerto del Carmen are a good option. For a family holiday in Puerto del Carmen, you have also the option to choose one of the hotels next to the Matagorda beach.

What to eat in Lanzarote?

It is clear that the fish is the main element of the traditional gastronomy of Lanzarote: fish soup, fish croquettes, fried moray eel, marinated tuna, garbanzas, gueldes, the traditional and famous papas arrugás, the mojo in all its versions (green, red, picón…), ropa vieja, puchero… And no end of delicious proposals that will transport you to the most authentic roots of this island.

If you want to eat well in Lanzarote, the most recommended is to opt for the traditional pubs and restaurants located close to the harbours where fishes are unloaded, since they serve up the freshest fishes from the sea.

The terraces of Playa Blanca are other must visit. Because of their atmosphere, always lively and their cocktails in all forms and colours. The perfect way to close an excursion day and enjoy the sunset placidly.

Funny things to do in Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje is one of the most recommended destinations to spend the holidays.  No matter who travels with you, in this part of the island you will find much more than beach: theme parks to enjoy with children or to have a different day with friends, gastronomic and wine tours, popular celebrations any day of the week, events in restaurants and pubs to have a pleasant evening party; golf, paddle tennis, hiking, diving, riding, surfing…  And thousand more sports; wellness centres and spa; cinema, theatre, regional dances. Everything you want. So much so that you will feel that days fly by.

This is why a good option when you travel to Tenerife and, specifically to Costa Adeje, is to have at least an itinerary for each day with the must visit places you want to know. Besides, you should consider that any day you will want to rest and to enjoy a pleasant night at the hotel.  In this way, as for accommodations the best options are the All Inclusive hotels in Costa Adeje, where you will have everything at your disposal and a fixed budget in advance.

 Sol Parque San Antonio Hotel

If you are more adventurous and you love the sports, the best alternative is to book a f matches with your friends or as a couple, and to have free afternoons to do the visits, tours, strolls and parties you have planned.

Some of the most amusing must visit places in Tenerife is Aqualand, located right in Costa Adeje. Some hotels rel=”nofollow” for children in Tenerife have direct transport to the park, but you can also take a bus in Playa de Las Américas or Los Cristianos. You should not miss the Siam Park or Parque Las Águilas (also known as Jungle Park), and you should fix a day to enjoy the cable railway of Teide.

As regards nature, the entire island of Tenerife is an authentic paradise for hiking and landscapes lovers.  Areas such as the Teide National Park, Los Gigantes cliff, Anaga Rural Park or Roque del Conde are nature reserves with amazing and unique species where walking is a real pleasure. You will never get tired of taking photos.

The cultural plans in Adeje are always surprising. They mix traditions, folklore, modern shows and the schedule always have something new to offer, from live music to guided tours to some of the most representative sites of this destination. Among the cultural must visits we stand out the library and archive of Adeje, right in the heart of the town. There are also museums, art galleries, crafts…

The parties at the hotels, pubs and terraces close to the beach are the main figures in the night in Costa Adeje. If you go with your partner or with your group of friends and you want to discover the nightlife of this area of the south of Tenerife, get ready: it is possible that you don’t return to the hotel until the early morning.

Windsurfing in Fuerteventura

In any beach destination in Spain we find thousands and thousands of different plans to enjoy the summer, but the water sports are, undoubtedly, one of the most coveted ones: sailing, surfing, stand up paddle surfing, windsurfing, diving, kitesurfing…  There are options for all tastes, some of which have become authentic social movements with many enthusiasts that travel thousands of kilometres to enjoy the best beaches for practising them.

If you are one of those who have booked their holiday in Fuerteventura to enjoy windsurfing, so you know that in this beautiful Canary Island are gathered some of the most interesting spots for practising this sport.  In addition to the advantage of the coasts washed by the Atlantic, Fuerteventura boasts the beauty of its landscapes, the good temperature of the water and the excellent weather that allows to enjoy the sea during the whole year.

Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace

Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace

For those planning to start this sport, the best area to do it in Fuerteventura is the south.  Costa Calma and, in general, all the coast of the municipality of Pájara. For added convenience, a good option is booking an accommodation in one of the many hotels located on the banks of Jandia Beach, very close to the lively Morro Jable town and to so wonderful beaches such as Playa del Matorral.

This plan is perfect for those who have planned their holiday with children in Fuerteventura and want to take the opportunity to learn surf with family.  Next to the hotel are always companies and schools specialized in surf and windsurf, offering courses for all ages and levels.  Likewise, you can rent equipment and watch entertaining shows.

Hotel Barcelo Corralejo Bay

Nevertheless, if you have done windsurfing and want a bit of adventure, the general recommendation is to choose an accommodation in Corralejo town, since in the surroundings of this area are placed some of the best beaches in Fuerteventura for doing this fun sport.

Additionally, Sotavento beach, in the south, is usually the scene where some of the most important windsurfing championships are celebrated, such as PWA that, year after year, receives in Fuerteventura the most renowned windsurfers in the world.

For taking waves, the most outstanding points are El Cotillo, Bristol, El Muelle and Punta Helena or Esquinzo.

Olé makes its début in Lanzarote and Tenerife

The new line of family beach resorts Olé Hotels has started to manage two complete hotels in Lanzarote and Tenerife, respectively, consolidating the Canary Islands as one of the best equipped destinations in Spain for those travelling with family to our country.

Location and services, along with a thoughtful personalized attention –not very common in this type of hotels– have shaped an interesting offer: these resorts are specialised in travellers with children wanting holidays to rest on the banks of a good beach and to make the most of their accommodation.

Hotel becomes the main figure of the stay, beyond the destination: activities, entertainment, facilities, cuisine. leisure, sport… The idea is to provide a complete and very varied whole to its guests, so they can enjoy their holidays without any worry.

Ole Olivina Lanzarote Hotel

Ole Olivina Lanzarote Hotel

Each one with its own characteristics but converging in general patterns. The Olivina Lanzarote Hotel, for example, is a hotel in Puerto del Carmen with wonderful outdoor pools, lounge area for the enjoyment of adults, miniclub and activities during the entire day for the little ones. Very appreciated for its exceptional location, one step away from Las Playas avenue, it offers one of the best price-quality relations in this area and special discounts on accommodation for children in Lanzarote.

Inheritance of the Riu chain, this accommodation has been made over and now has a very specific proposal, focused on children without leaving behind the adults. It has a traditional and simple style, and complete services: from the typical buffet restaurant to a detailed program of activities for the little ones.

The Tropical Tenerife Hotel agrees with the previous one on this philosophy, but, in this case, it is more oriented to travellers looking for a touch of modernity and a distinctive design: the impressive rooms of this resort in Costa Adeje boast spaciousness and brightness, decorated with white and purple tones, with Nordic and minimalist style furniture.

Common areas are very similar to those offered by the Olivina Lanzarote Hotel: pools, buffet restaurant, cocktail bar, miniclub, children entertainment program, gardens, car park…A classic beach resort in Tenerife with a plus of modernity and All Inclusive service.

In this sense, the Olé Hotels’ portfolio is targeted at a clear sector: families with children in beach destinations. In the near future new hotels will join this tendency, all of them under the umbrella of the sun and beach tourism.
