There’s always something to see in Madrid, particularly if we talk about visual arts exhibitions. All museums and main gallery arts in Madrid host weekly new amazing events.  Discover below the five main museums in Madrid and know about their histories.

Prado Museum

It was built in 1786 as the Royal Cabinet of Natural History in Spain. Prado’s Museum became quickly one of the biggest museums in the world. What makes this museum special is its wide collection of Goya, Greco, El Bosco, Velazquez and Tiziano, one of the most important art galleries in the world of the 16th and 17th centuries artists.

We can find in the museum two prestigious works, not just because of their beauty, but for their meaning: Degollacion de San Juan Bautista y banquete de Herodes (The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist and The Feast of Herod) measuring 952 centimeters in width and 280 centimeters high, the biggest in the museum.

We can also find Alegoria de la donacion del Casino a la reina Isabel de Braganza por el Ayuntamiento de Madrid (Allegory of the donation of the Casino to Queen Maria Isabel de Braganza by the Municipality of Madrid) painted by Vicente Lopez in order to decorate the roof of the Queen’s Casino, which has now disappeared.

It’s one of the most important art galleries in Spain located in Paseo del Prado, really close to other two big museums in the city: Prado and Reina Sofia.

It hosts historical paintings which belonged to Thyssen-Bornemisza family for over 70 years.

Short summary: what the museum tries to express

Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

It has a privileged location in Madrid and its interior design differs a lot from other museums. Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum shows exclusivity, luxury, high-class and elegance.

In this museum we can find lots of important artworks from the 20th century, works of pop art, Russian constructivism, German expressionism…  in other places they would be “classified material” because of their historic value. We recommend you to see works like Piazza Navona, Roma by Vanvitelli, a reflection of perspectivism and Reflejo con dos niños, a self-portrait of Lucian Freud, in which you see the artist crushed into the roof and the pendant light.

Relevant information: its amazing walls

Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is different from other traditional museums. It has not the typical white walls as background for several pictures and works. It has warm walls in wood or clay colour. This decision was made by baroness Thyssen, Carmen Cervera, baron Thyssen’s widow.

Interesting exhibitions at Thyssen-Bornemisza

  • Andrew and Jamie at the studio: the American realism is perfectly reflected by Andrew and Jamie Wyeth, who potentiated this artistic movement last century. More than 60 works are exhibited from March 1 to June 19. Some works are shown to all audiences for the first time. Come and discover Wyeth’s amazing works!

  • Realism in Madrid: exhibition opened on the 9th February and finishing on the 22nd May. It hosts almost 100 works of artists from Madrid, who work on their art works since the 50’s. It reflects realism and daily routines, as well as common places and the most representative scenes of Madrid.

Accommodation: in the heart of Madrid, in the Museums’ Triangle

Madrid centre is one of the most exclusive areas in the city. It’s the perfect place to stay, as we find most of the best museums in this popular area.

For this reason, we recommend Catalonia Las Cortes hotels in Santa Ana Square and the Art’s Triangle. Below, there’s more information about the hotel.

Main hotel attributes

If you want to have a quiet and nice experience during your visit to the museums in Madrid, you should find the easiest access. The location of Catalonia Las Cortes, at the heart of Prado Street in Madrid and in front of the charming Santa Ana Square offer you four advantages you should know.

1. Privileged location: in the Art’s Triangle

It’s located in El Prado Street in the centre of Madrid. Particularly, it’s in front of Santa Ana Square. This area is also known as Las Letras neighbourhood and also the Art’s Triangle. It’s called like this because it hosts the three biggest museums in Madrid: Museo del Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Reina Sofia.

Its privileged location allows you to visit the main museums in Madrid just by walking through this area and enjoying the exhibitions.

2. Classic style construction and rooms

room of Catalonia Las Cortes

room of Catalonia Las Cortes

Formerly, the building were now the hotel is located was a palace. Its original construction dates from the 17th century. For this reason, the hotel chain decided to preserve and restore it completely.

The hotel still hosts paintings, metallic and wood pieces and many more items as old as the palace, giving each room a particular historical atmosphere, so you will enjoy the museum and the cultural exhibition for sure. If you look at the photos of Catalonia Las Cortes Hotel you will admire its charm and architectural tradition.

Finally, the last attribute of Las Cortes hotel by Catalonia Hotels that we must stand out is the possibility of bringing your pet to the hotel. The guest must just confirm that he will bring his pet at the time of booking his room. And that’s it! The hotel will prepare everything for your pet to be comfortable and also enjoy culture and Madrid’s museums,  of course, in its own way.

Disconnect from the world: escape to Mallorcan countryside

Sometimes disconnection is not so easy as it seems. Telecommunication, Internet and Social Media lead us to be constantly in touch and explain what we do, where we are and where we go. That affects our health, so you should stop at least for a while and find a place to relax and rebalance yourself, enjoying life as it deserves it.

Today we suggest you disconnect from everything and take a 4 days countryside break. We have chosen Mallorca because it is one of the most versatile holiday destinations and easily accessible by plane from almost any airport in Spain and abroad.

We plan our break in Spring -early summer, the perfect time to explore the charming places of the island calmly and the weather is perfect to enjoy outdoor activities avoiding the summer heat waves.

We want to travel to the countryside close to Palma in Mallorca, so we can reach the city easily in case we would like to enjoy urban life just for a while like tourists nosing out locals’ daily life.

agrotourism in Mallorca

agrotourism in Mallorca

There are several accommodations in this area: hotels and beach resorts, apartments, traditional country houses… We chose a paradisiac agrotourism in Mallorca. Son Julia Boutique Hotel, a country hotel between Palma and Llucmajor built in a typical Mallorcan finca and surrounded by meadows, mills and olive groves. The hotel boasts impressive gardens -gardening is really important for them- and offers a wide range of services: spa, gourmet gastronomy, sports and wedding venues.

Choosing a hotel with high quality services is essential, even if the budget rises a bit, because it guarantees us total disconnection and avoids us to go to the city when we get bored. Breaking with routine is not easy and we have to make great efforts to avoid doing the same: computer, handy and so on. Therefore, sport, countryside, blue sky, crystal water coves, gourmet food, daily interesting plans…
The recipe is really simple and even if it could be difficult to decide to take a 4 days break, we must realise our body and mind limits and take care of ourselves. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but buying a flight ticket and booking an agrotourism in Mallorca is the best way to find happiness. A little indulgence from time to time is good for us. Let’s have a happy disconnection.

What to see in Madrid in 1 day

You may have done a layover in Madrid many times without taking advantage of the situation and visiting the city. The capital offers so many options and possibilities that you may feel overwhelemd and decide to relax in a terrace having a drink. It is not a bad plan, specially because Madrid’s terraces and bars feature a fabulous ambiance. But just in case you fancy visiting the city, we have a challenge for you: discovering Madrid in one day. Indispensible plans and places to visit in 24 hours… Read and you will see.

A morning in El Retiro

Book a hotel near El Retiro or a hotel in the area of Las Letras and get lost in the Triangle of Art: Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen, Caixaforum… And conclude the morning lying down in El Retiro or walking along its paths. Visit the Palacio de Cristal (where you will always find interesting exhibitions), make a picnic or have a snack under the trees or in one of its terraces and take a deep breath.

You may also stop for eating at the El Trapo restaurant of the Iberostar Las Letras, one of the newest gastronomic spaces in Madrid led by the chef Paco Morales, and where to savour typical dishes from the capital elaborated with care and with the special touch of this master chef. It is located in one of the hotels in Gran Vía, near the Parliament building, which will allow you to discover the centre of Madrid during the afternoon.

El Retiro, Madrid

Shopping and tapas

Booking a room in the centre of Madrid is the best option for you to enjoy two of the most popular activities in the city: making a shopping tour around Gran Via, Fuencarral, Callao and Preciados and making a tapas and beer route around La Latina, going through San Miguel Market, near Plaza Mayor square.

And for concluding your day in Madrid, we recommend you to visit Santa Ana square, sit in one of its terraces and start a tour around the wine cellars, where you will find the most famous taverns and vermouth bars in Madrid. You will find a lively ambience all days of the week, although the best day is Sunday morning, when you will be able to visit the Rastro (Madrid’s street market), get many of the bric-a-bracs you will find there and immerse in the authentic Madrid.

Golf, spa… What are you planning for your next holidays?

There are all types of travellers. You might have even found people with whom travelling is impossible. Yes, not everybody is good at everything… And enjoying a trip, which seems a piece of cake, may be hard if the chosen company is not the adequate one. The same happens when we plan our trip according to our budget: it is true that we have to adjust to it, but if we are planning a holiday, it has to include our preferred activities. There are prices for all pockets, the important thing is to adapt to your needs. And make a good search.

Golf holidays?

Yes, golf packages might be expensive. Most of the people consider this sport an activity reserved for elite travellers with a medium-high budget, but there are more and more interesting opportunities to get, specially during low season, golf getaways at an adjusted budget. Do not give up: if you want to enjoy your holidays practising your swing, check out the official website of these accommodations of the IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts chain:

Yes, it may look like a dream now that you are reading about it from your office chair, on an ordinary busy work day, but it is more attainable than you think. Check out the availability of dates and packages in the following hotels:

Luxury hotel tendencies for 2016

Time has changed the concept we had of luxury holidays. Luxury does not imply an excessively ornate hotel with butler, concierge, porter, caviar and vain people any more. Now almost anyone who saves a bit of money can afford a 4-day getaway to a 5-star hotel in some of the best destinations of Spain, and even Europe. The luxury hotels in Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Balearic or Canary Islands have changed their philosophy and their proposal: everybody deserves a stay in an accommodation full of commodities and special services, without thereby implying a place without soul exclusively for the elite.

This is the philosophy of the new luxury hotels in Tenerife, like the Grand Hotel Mencey, a proposal of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts that has recovered one of the oldest hotels in Spain and has opened it to a public of all ages, nationalities and acquisitive power. Without losing the class and elegance of an exclusive luxury, well-cared, discreet and quiet hotel, this accommodation in the centre of Santa Cruz has democratised its experiences, opening its doors so that we enjoy its charms: its stunning wellness and spa area, with thousands of square metre devoted to body and mind wellness; its fitness area and its lounge bar with terrace, with daily events open to the external public and to the locals as a leisure and relax alternative in Santa Cruz.

The Los Menceyes restaurant, with the already famous Mencey Cooking Class, is a meeting point for locals, personalities of the society of Tenerife, business people and those who want to enjoy a special gastronomic experience, celebrate an anniversary or organise a wedding or a business event.

Luxury hotels

Luxury hotels

Another option with a clear tendency in the section of luxury hotels is the hotel chain Vincci Hotels. In this case the exclusivity is kept and the hotel chain bets for large resorts with endless services in traditional high class areas for holidays, wellness and golf tourism, which are elements traditionally associated with the 5-star hotels in Malaga, Majorca or Ibiza.

But this chain has developed different lines of action in this sense. And almost in the opposite direction, it offers us an alternative to enjoy our luxury holidays based on personalised attention, small details, intimate atmosphere… We are talking about the hotel in Benalmádena with spa and gastronomy, the Selección Aleysa Boutique & Spa, a hotel with few rooms and selected services for an elite atmosphere.

Talking about luxury implies talking about capitals, as the best-cared hotels are traditionally located in the largest cities. For example, one of the reference luxury accommodations of Iberostar -despite being a hotel chain focused on destinations of beach tourism- is a hotel in the centre of Budapest devoted to business travellers and to those looking for comfortable urban getaways with a fabulous location.

The hotels in the centre of Madrid are also devoted to the business sector, but the 2016 tendency for this type of accommodation is improving the services no matter the type of traveller. The hotels with roof terraces in Madrid have created a tendency in the city, and the same happens with the hotels with restaurant in Serrano, Las Cortes or Puerta del Sol, which have become a reference in the haute cuisine sector. In fact, most of the kitchens of the luxury hotels in Madrid are led by great chefs and prominent figures of the gastronomic sector. This also happens in the main 4-star hotels in Bilbao, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville: the most select hotels want to get to a wider audience and become a destination in themselves, enlivening the cities where they lie.

The new services being incorporated are wellness services with new techniques and spaces, with credited staff, with a combination of services traditionally understood as basic sports… Gastronomy, as already mentioned, is another of the lines of action in these luxury accommodations; the design rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology (the hotels in Madrid with free iPad are already a classic); the personalised leisure plans managed directly by the hotel, as if it was a concierge service, etc.

Prices have also fallen, creating a good quality price ratio that makes the expense worth it. These hotels are unavoidably expensive, but if we compare their prices with those of a 3-star hotel, in most of the cases choosing a 4-star hotel in Madrid, or even a 5-star, makes up for the effort. But it is important to manage your reservation in the adequate place. Looking for a quick service, we normally get directly to booking, but in many cases, specially with superior hotels, the best offers for luxury hotels are on the official website of the chain, or even on the individual website of every hotel (although not all of them have one).

Seville has a special flavour

Sevilla has a special flavour. Sevilla tastes like art, tradition, ancient cuisine, fresh and salty, sauces and dishes, fried food, salads…it tastes like everything within it, with its essential grace that dazzles whoever visit it. It is the capital of Andalusia and it brings together the typical dishes of the region: for example, there is no better place to taste the different types of gazpachos orsalmorejos, since there are restaurants of each province in its streets, offering with the very joy of the city, the traditional cuisine brought from their place of origin.

Gastronomy in Sevilla is an historical concept, a ritual that no one can (and should not) escape, because, in order to discover the city’s essence, eating in Seville and doing it well is an inevitable step.

Large restaurants often require prior booking, many of which allow you to do it online, so it’s easier to schedule your tasting route of your gastronomic trip to Seville.platesandtapasare more curious, with free will: the idea here is improvise and get lost in the streets of the city, with the aromas coming out of the taverns and your craving of the moment.

theschedule to order food are long and many of thetapasbars are open all day long, from breakfast to dinner and a little bit more. Ham, squids, gazpachos, olives…And local winesarethe best combination with thespecialtiesthat fill the bars of these pubs decorated with oldcoloredprints.

If you’re staying in a hotel in the centre Sevilla or you’re thinking of booking in an accommodation in the area of Barrio de Santa Cruz , the most central of all-you will have at your disposal the best streets and plazas to enjoy all the tastes of this traditional cuisines.Taverns, traditional pubs, their delicious plates served with their wine and their beers, the kind of the neighbours who come religiously every day to enjoy an aperitif in the bars … To organize atapas route through thecenter of Seville is a must you have to include in any trip to this capital.

Hotels and accommodations in Seville:

Spa, Golf, Adventure… A thousand reasons to break the routine

There are plenty of reasons to leave everything for a few days and go on a journey to a new destination, a place where we can enjoy all the time in the world to do what we really want. Taking advantage of a 4dayslong weekend or that week is before the end ofyearis relatively simple if we organize ourselves well. So, stop making excuses, leave routines aside and start to dream: the last trip of 2015 is waiting for you.

Escape to the south

The first thing we can do is choosing a good accommodation in the destination weprefer (for nearness, interest, convenience). For example, if we opt for the south, Andalusia has a wide range of establishments that provide not only options for resting butcomplete proposals of tailored breaks: spa hotels in Marbella or golf hotels in Isla Canela are a good example of this as they provide all kinds of services in design areas created especially forholidays.

Huelva, Malaga and Cadiz are 3 really complete destination options, where you can practicesport outdoors, enjoy a unique cuisine and discover their vibrant culture.

If you have more days (5 days or a whole week), we suggest you to consider a trip to the Canary Islands. There you will have absolutely everything you need to unwind beforeyearends and take forces to begin 2016 with all the energies.

As for accommodation, the most sought-after accommodations are the spa hotels in Fuerteventura. Inthis island you can enjoy surfing as in no other place in Europe; there are also good recommendations for spa hotels in Tenerife or hotels with Jacuzzi in Tenerife, specifically in the tourist area of Costa Adeje, which is one of the most complete in terms of services for visitors.

Another interesting option for any getaway of relaxation and sport are the golf hotels in Costa Adeje, since in this coastalarea we find the best golf coursesin the island of Tenerife.

Majorca: Mediterranean relaxation

One of the places in Spain always related to the word holiday is Majorca. In its northern area, in the tourist area between the bays of Pollensa and Alcúdia, we find the best alternatives of leisure and relaxation on the island. The area of hotels in Alcudia and Playa de Muro is the most prepared to provide the necessary services: from wellness centres to amusement parks to go with children at almost any time of the year.

Near the capital, in the southern part, towards Llucmajor, you’ll also find interesting options for a getaway at good price. For example, booking a spa hotel in Playa de Palma or a 5-star hotel in Son Antem, in the countryside of Majorca, surrounded by one of the best golf courses in Majorca and offering top level gastronomic experiences.

Hotels for sport lovers in Majorca

Sport fever is significantly increasing in Spain. And few are those who have a hobby that makes them sweat and break the sedentary lifestyle of our routine. Joggers, football Player, ramblers and hikers, surfers…Everyone seeks to change their life rhythm, inside or outside the gym, and there are many of those who enjoy their holiday balancing their body and soul.

Following this trend that seems to be here to stay (hope it last, because it’s healthy), the hotel industry has responded and there are many hotel chains have decided to transform their classic hotels and turn them intoreal oasisof wellbeing and sports.
